Driver in Fatal Hit and Run Charged with Negligent Homicide

Former Amherst Fire Chief John Bachman was killed in the crash.

UPDATE: WMUR is now reporting that Amherst Police have charged the driver responsible for Monday's fatal hit-and-run accident with negligent homicide.

The driver in a Monday hit-and-run accident that killed Amherst's former fire chief has turned himself in to police, according to WMUR.

The television station reported that a 20-year-old man from neighboring Mont Vernon turned himself in. He reportedly told police he didn't realize he had hit a person and thought he just hit a snowbank. Former Amherst Fire Chief John Bachman was killed in the crash. Police believe he was out getting the mail when he was hit.
