Amherst Schools 'Shocked' and 'Saddened' by Student's Death

Amherst School Superintendent Peter Warburton issued a statement Monday afternoon expressing shock and sadness at the death of Josh Savyon, a student at the Clark-Wilkins Elementary School who was killed by his father on Sunday.

"It is with shock and deep sadness that the nine year old boy who was shot and killed in a murder-suicide yesterday in Manchester, was Josh Savyon, a student at the Clark-Wilkins Elementary School in Amherst," Warburton said. "Josh was known to his classmates and to staff as a gentle and happy child. He was intelligent, friendly and extremely curious.

"At this time, our hearts and our thoughts are with his mother Becky, the family, and others who may have been affected by this horrible tragedy," Warburton added.
