Possible U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Rubens in Amherst Saturday

The former State Senator is exploring a run for the U.S. Senate in 2014.

A Republican contender looking to run for U.S. Senate next year will be stopping by Amherst this weekend.

Former State Senator Jim Rubens will be the guest speaker at the Amherst Republican Committee meeting in Joey’s Diner this Saturday, Aug. 3 at 8 a.m.

Rubens is running an exploratory campaign to pursue the 2014 race for a U.S. Senate seat. He served two terms in the NH state senate from 1994-1998 where he chaired the Public Affairs and Education committees.

During his time in office he focused on extended voting for towns and school districts, ending teacher tenure and accessibility to higher education.

He ran in the Republican primary for governor in 1998, but was defeated. Since then he has led the Granite State Coalition Against Expanded Gambling to fight against the casino bill.
