Amherst Winter Carnival on Sunday

The event will be held in the center of the village from 1 to 3 p.m.

Submitted by the Amherst Recreation Department:

Our 4th Annual Winter Carnival will again be held in the center of the village at the Middle Street Ice Rink on Sunday February 9th from 1-3pm!

Middle Street will be closed to traffic so you and your family can enjoy winter activities such as ice skating, snowshoeing, and warming up around the fire!

  • Recreation partner Walnut Hollow Farm will again bring their beautiful ponies for free pony rides and helmets for the safety of riders. They have been named the Union Leader's 2013 Reader's Choice Riding Stable and will be available to answer questions about boarding, training and leasing at their facility.
  • Gail Guertin from the NH Mushers will make her second appearance, bringing her sled and her children-friendly dogs for a meet and greet. Bring your questions- she's happy to answer them!
  • Amherst Fire Department will be hosting a free-will donation concession stand offering hamburgers, hotdogs, hot chocolate and other winter warm-ups.
  • Amherst 8th grader Anna Quinlan will perform a short figure skating routine on the Middle Street Rink and lead possible future skating Olympians in a small demonstration.
  • The Sport Loft Ski Shop will give residents an opportunity to try our Cross Country skis and answer questions about rentals and sales of all ski and snowboard equipement.
  • Hoynacki Kettle Korn will be making a fresh, delicious snack for sampling and sale.
  • Make an environmentally friendly birdfeeder with one of our new PMEC educators.
  • BYOB (Bring Your Own Broom) and participate in our first Broom Ball game! (This game will be taking place on the snow, not the ice)
  • Learn about upcoming programs happening through Amherst Recreation and at the Peabody Mill Environmental Center.
  • Thank you to Hungarian Boy Scout Troop #2 for keeping our fire tended for anyone who is need of a warm-up!

While this event is free to the public, donations for the SHARE pantry will be appreciated. The Food Pantry accepts nonperishable goods and is always in need of toilet paper, large size diapers, small size Depends and other personal hygiene items. Other suggestions include condiments, juices, cereals, pancake mix, and syrup. Donations will be collected at the Recreation Department table located on the corner of Main Street and Middle Street.
