Thanks to community-wide support, the SHS Robotics’ Annual Comedy Night and Silent Auction was the most successful event in the Team’s history. The profits will be used to support the Team’s efforts to design and build a robot which will compete in the 2013 FIRST® Robotics Challenge, Ultimate Ascentsm.
“The comedians definitely kept us laughing, and I know many participants got some very good deals at the Silent Auction,” commented Amherst resident Krista Hanks. “We are already looking forward to next year’s event!”
According to Bill Price, program director for Team 138, the event has put the team in a very good financial position for the rest of the year. “Without the support of our sponsors and fundraising efforts like Comedy Night and the Silent Auction, these students would miss an extraordinary opportunity. The FIRST program is one of the most recognized mentor-based programs to help students build science, engineering and technology skills,” Price continued. The Team also receives support from several area companies including Monarch Instruments, BAE Systems, Yankee Publishing, Rapid Sheet Metal, Rockwell Automation, CMC Software, Control Air Inc., County Stores, BB Molding, John Albert Welding Services and J R Poirier Tool & Machine Company.
With more than 40 students and 12 mentors, Souhegan’s FIRST Robotics Team is tasked with designing and building a robot over a 6-week period to compete in the US FIRST national robotics competition starting March 1. The project combines computer programming, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering into a team-based competition.
