Women-only Defense Training Offered in Amherst

The R.A.D. defense training is scheduled to start July 22.

The Amherst Police Department is presenting a R.A.D. Training program for women, starting July 22 at the Amherst Fire Department. The start date is 5 p.m. on July 22.

The free self-defense training is for women of all ages. R.A.D. stands for Rape Aggression Defense. The programs will be conducted by two Amherst officers certified as R.A.D. instructors.

The program starts July 22, and the training is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m..

The training includes actual demonstrations where participants and instructors wear full-contact, padded suits.

The Amherst Lions Club and the Milford Rotary Club joined forces to provide the Amherst Police Department with nearly $3,000 to acquire the R.A.D. training suits, which are used in the training sessions.
