A devastating collision on Route 101 has left two dead and closed off the road this Saturday morning.
A tractor trailer was heading west on Route 101 around 4:30 a.m. when a car attempted to leave the intersection at Schoolhouse Road, according to Amherst Lt. Anthony E. Ciampoli.
The vehicles collided and both the passenger and driver in the car were found dead on the scene. The victims identities have not been released at this time.
The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured, according to Ciampoli.
Police have closed off the major state route from Joppa Hill Road in Bedford to Schoolhouse Road in Amherst. A detour is currently in place until the road opens, which should take two- to four- hours.
Ciampoli said that the accident is under investigation, but all indications show that there was no wrongdoing on behalf of the tractor trailer driver.
