UPDATE: Gunshots Came After Walmart Shoplifting

Merrimack man who was shot at arrested on multiple charges.

UPDATE, 8:30 a.m.: The Merrimack man who had shots fired at his SUV yesterday has been arrested in relation to a shoplifting incident that day.

Christopher Whitehead, 40, of Merrimack was arrested for shoplifting, driving after suspension and conduct after an accident.

Amherst Police Chief Peter Lyon said that Whitehead had allegedly stolen a television and various items from the Amherst Walmart before fleeing the scene in his SUV around 4:30 p.m..

He was reportedly involved in several accidents before stopping in the Cub Circle neighborhood, where two rounds were shot into his vehicle. There were no injuries and Lyon said there is currently no danger to the public.

Police have identified a suspect in the shooting, but no arrests have been made.

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday in Amherst, according to WMUR.

Residents told the television station that a man in a car sped through Cub Circle on Sunday shooting a gun in what may have been a road rage incident following an accident with another vehicle. No one was injured.
