DON'T Punish the Citizens with a NO VOTE!
My husband and I beg all not to punish the citizens of Amherst on Tuesday with a NO VOTE on the towns much needed operating budget. It will only delay the mere start of an economic recovery for yet another year. Instead we propose a 5 step plan to be enacted on Wednesday March 12, 2014. #1 Restructure the newly elected board of selectmen by appointing either Mr. D’Angelo or Mr. Akillian as chairman of the BOS for a one-year term. #2 Remove town administrator Mr. O’Mara from office and appoint an interim in-house reputable administrator (either rescue squad director Gleason or chief of police Reams). #3 recruit a professional town administrator replacement to fulfill the strategic vision articulated during the budget process. #4 Dissolve the full time fire chief and assistant chiefs positions and utilize a part-time fire chief to manage the department by utilizing the personnel cost savings to hire weekday fire fighters. #5 consider a complete restructuring of the communities department of public works to promote cost efficient delivery of services without excuses.
