Souhegan Grad Wows Judges on American Idol

Souhegan High School graduate Alex Preston got his big shot this week, appearing on American Idol's Top 30 on Wednesday night.

This week, it will be up to America, and not the judges, to decide whether the 20-year-old Mont Vernon resident is good enough to move on. On Wednesday, Preston performed the song "Volcano" by Damien Rice, and all three judges said they loved it.

"That was probably the best song choice of the night," said Keith Urban. "That was the right song for you. That's a song you could've written. It's right in your thing. It was just good, man, really good."

"It had such a groove to it," added Jennifer Lopez.

Preston will find out on Thursday night's show if he moves on. The top 5 men and top 5 women will be chosen by viewers, and the judges will choose three wild cards to make up the Top 13. American Idol airs at 8 p.m. on Fox.
