NH Prepares for 'Hometown Hero' Alex Preston

American Idol is preparing for a parade and a free concert at UNH on Saturday.

While the top four contestants on American Idol will perform tonight, the show's producers are busily preparing for a "Hometown Hero" celebration this Saturday in New Hampshire for Alex Preston.

The events are pending the voting results Thursday, but the preparations underway are exciting Preston's growing fan base in New Hampshire and nationwide.

American Idol is coordinating the prospective celebrations with the University of New Hampshire and the town of Durham, among others.

"We’re really excited to play a role in Alex’s hometown visit and look forward to welcoming him back to the University of New Hampshire," said Erika Mantz, UNH director of Media Relations. "We encourage all Granite Staters and his fellow Wildcats to tune in for his performance and cast a vote to get him into the finals."

Todd Selig, administrator for the town of Durham, said the town received a call from American Idol on Monday about the events being planned for Saturday.

Preston will make the media rounds in Manchester and visit the Statehouse, and of course there's a stop in his hometown of Mont Vernon.

There will be a parade at 4:30 p.m. and a free concert at the Whittemore Center in Durham at 7:30 p.m., with events and times subject to change, pending the show's outcome.

Selig said everything right now is tentative, pending the FOX show May 7 and the results May 8. He and his wife occasionally do watch the show.

"He's a regular guy who has a great voice," Selig said.
