Alex Preston Eyes Top 2

The American Idol finalist sings "Stay" and "Story of My Life" as he eyes final 2.

Alex Preston sang "Story of My Life," the song chosen for him by New Hampshire, as part of his performance Wednesday night to become one of the top two finalists on American Idol.

The May 14 show on FOX featured some of the film footage of Preston's "hometown" visit to Mont Vernon, Souhegan High and his house, where he learned he would also sing a judge's pick, "Stay," by Rihanna.

The judges loved his performances, but appeared particularly impressed with his rendition of "Stay."

Said Jennifer Lopez, "I knew that you would sing the heck out of that song."

Fellow judge Keith Urban nodded his approval, and super judge ex-officio Randy Jackson offered one of his top compliments: "I thought it was dope."

Here is how to vote for Alex Preston and the other American Idol finalists.

FOX airs Thursday at 9 for more on the march to the final two.
