The audience and the judges loved the 20-year-old Mont Vernon native's performance.

"You evoke greatness," said Jennifer Lopez.

Harry Connick Jr., meanwhile, told Preston that he "hit the bullseye on the artistry target.

"You have been so consistent with your artistic choices that I'm really starting to know who you are, and I think you might be leading the pack in that category," he said.

To find out if Preston makes it to the Top 9, tune in to the results show Thursday at 9 p.m. on Fox. To vote for him, text 9 to 83676, call 1-855-4-IDOL-09 (1-855-443-6509) or visit www.AmericanIdol.com.
