NH Is Not the Safest State to Live In?

For National Safety Month, WalletHub releases an array of safety conditions for the states and District of Columbia.

New Hampshire is not No. 1 when it comes to a national ranking of the "safest states to live in," but the Granite State comes in a close second to Massachusetts.

WalletHub, in honor of National Safety Month, released a state-by-state list of safety factors, including crime, motor vehicle accidents, disasters and workplace safety.

New Hampshire's overall rank was 2nd. Here are the rankings per the following categories:

  • Financial safety: 2
  • Driving safety: 3
  • Workplace safety: 1
  • Natural disasters: 14
  • Home and community safety: 10
Additional safety conditions in New Hampshire:
  • 3rd – Murder and Non-negligent Manslaughter per Capita
  • 9th – Fatalities per 100 Million Vehicle Miles of Travel
  • 1st – Employer Health Insurance Coverage Rates
  • 42nd – Public Hospital Rankings
  • 17th – Sex Offenders Per Capita
  • 9th – Assault per Capita
  • 19th – Percentage of Population Without Health Insurance Coverage
  • 5th – Percentage of People Who Spend More Than They Make
  • 9th – Annual Consumer Savings Account Averages
  • 6th – Number of Climate Disasters (over 1 billion in damage)
