Vote in our poll, and share your thoughts in the comments field below.
Following her controversial gun control vote, Kelly Ayotte has been the New Hampshire Senator most often in the news of late. But she doesn't face re-election until 2016. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), meanwhile, is up for re-election next year. Until this week, though, there had been very little talk of any Republicans interested in challenging the popular former governor, unless you count former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown's talk of possibly running in New Hampshire. A University of New Hampshire poll conducted in April showed that Shaheen's favorability rating is at 59 percent. And an April poll by Public Policy Polling showed Shaheen leading every potential Republican challenger by double digits. Earlier this week, however, former …

Cornerstone Action has asked the Texas Senator to speak at its annual dinner this fall.
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), said to be eyeing a run for president in 2016, has been invited to speak in New Hampshire at Cornerstone Action's annual dinner. Ashley Pratte, executive director of Cornerstone Action, said Friday that she has been in contact with Cruz's scheduler, and he is "very interested" in attending. She expects to know within the next two weeks whether Cruz will be able to make it to the dinner. Cornerstone's dinner will be held in late October or early November, Pratte said. Texas Gov. Rick Perry was the keynote speaker at last year's dinner. Video of Perry's speech went viral, with some accusing him of being drunk or on drugs, a claim he denied. So far this year, potential GOP presidential candidates Bobby Jindal and…

At 100, the New Hampshire Primary is as strong as ever, advocates say.
Political activists, historians, and public officials, as well as the media, came together to celebrate the 100th birthday of the New Hampshire primary, which was signed into law on May 21, 1913. The Bullock Act, as it was known at the time, changed the way the party delegates were chosen, from behind closed doors meetings, mainly controlled by the Boston & Maine Railroad, to direct election of delegates via presidential preference balloting. The family of Rep. Stephen Bullock, D-Richmond, was on hand to accept thanks from the state. The family had donated a number of items to the state from the family’s archives. The attendees shared political war stories, cracked jokes, thanked Secretary of State Bill Gardner for his tenacious defense …

Maggie Hassan, Senate President Peter Bragdon, House Speaker Terie Norelli, primary veterans from both parties, and family members of the elected officials who acted together a century ago to create the primary. "On May 21st, 1913, New Hampshire’s top leaders showed vision in passing and …

The Republican governor of Louisiana appeared at a PAC fundraiser in Manchester Friday.
MANCHESTER, NH – A crowd of about 50 Republicans trickled into the Radisson Hotel Ballroom here Friday night to hear what Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal had to say about the future of the GOP. "We lost an election, it's time to get over it," he said. "The reality is I'm tired of the navel-gazing. I'm tired of all the public confessions. The reality is we already have one liberal party in America. We don't need two liberal parties." As the head of the Republican Governors Association, Jindal has been making regular appearances for various groups across the country. The governor has been kicked around as a possible presidential hopeful in 2016. Jindal's New Hampshire visit, the first this year for a potential 2016 candidate, was for a …
Rockefeller Center poll also shows 7-point rise in unfavorable rating for NH Sen. Kelly Ayotte and 76 percent support for 'universal background checks.'
Hillary Clinton edges Chris Christie by 5 points and Marco Rubio by 11 points in a new poll on a hypothetical 2016 presidential match-up. The poll found Clinton would lead Christie 37.1 percent to 32.3 percent if the presidential election were held today, according to the sixth annual New Hampshire State of the State poll released Friday by the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center at Dartmouth College. Clinton would beat U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) by 44 percent to 33 percent, the poll found. The poll surveyed more than 400 registered New Hampshire voters from April 22 to April 25. It has a margin of error of 4.7 percent. In New Hampshire, back in February, a "Run Hillary Run" draft committee was filed with the Secretary of State's office. Other …

It's still very, very early, but to this point, it looks like Hillary Clinton is almost a lock for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. A Quinnipiac University poll released this week had her with 65 percent of her party's support, with Vice President Joe Biden a distant second at just 13 percent. Polls of New Hampshire voters by Public Policy Polling and the University of New Hampshire Survey Center have shown similar results. Clinton also fares well in potential match-ups with top Republican presidential contenders like Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Chris Christie. She leads Paul 52 to 41 percent and Rubio 52 to 38 percent in New Hampshire, according to PPP. That begs the question: Is there anyone who stands a chance against Clinton…

The former State Senator may be considering a run for office next year.
A potential political contender in the next round of elections will be making an appearance in Amherst this weekend. Former state Sen. Gary Lambert will join the Amherst Republicans for their monthly meeting at Joey's Diner on Saturday, May 4, at 8 a.m. He will discuss the recently released RNC report on the Growth and Opportunity Project. Lambert, a 30-year Marine Corps veteran has hinted at a run for office in New Hampshire next year. He has not ruled out a congressional or gubernatorial run, and would be up against Republican William O'Brien if he challenges U.S. Rep. Ann Kuster (D-NH).

Reps Kuster and Shea-Porter's favorability ratings still in the basement in latest UNH poll.
Net favorability ratings for U.S. Reps. Carol Shea-Porter and Ann Kuster, Democrats from the 1st and 2nd Districts, respectively, are at –1 percent in the latest poll from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center. The findings are fueling a new wave of questioning whether the two are vulnerable in the mid-term elections – much to the delight of Republican State Committee Chairwoman Jennifer Horn. The WMUR Granite State Poll found much higher public opinion of U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat up for re-election in 2014, and U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, a Republican who is not up for re-election until 2016. The UNH release Wednesday was titled, "Shaheen and Ayotte Remain Popular." The Ayotte numbers are in some contrast to the recent …
