VIDEO: Hassan Says NH Republicans Are 'Taking Us Back Centuries'
The Democratic gubernatorial candidate spoke against NH House Speaker William O'Brien and Republicans during a trip to Amherst on Wednesday.
Democrat Maggie Hassan said she wants to put a stop to New Hampshire House Speaker William O'Brien, R-Mont Vernon.
The former state Senate Majority Leader and now candidate for governor made a visit to the Congregational Church of Amherst last night for a potluck dinner sponsored by Amherst Democrats.
Hassan spoke out against what she sees as destructive policies from O'Brien and the Republicans that follow him in the New Hampshire Legislature.
She announced her intention to run for the Democratic nomination for governor last month. The other gubernatorial candidate to announce at this point is Republican Ovide Lamontagne.
We will have a more detailed report on Maggie Hassan's visit coming for you later today.

Maggie brought a voice of reason, experience, intelligence and balance to NH politics which is desperately needed. She reminded us that this current legislature is not interested in solving problems and governing. Otherwise why would they lower a cigarette tax, lower fees on vehicle registration, lay off state auditors? All of these actions have LOWERED revenues dramatically. The cigarette tax cut alone accounted for more than half of the shortfall last month. These draconian cuts are bad for our health and infrastructure... not to mention our safety, education, the mentally ill, elderly and environment. I urge people to please educate yourselves on who you are voting for and what those in government today are doing to our community and citizens. We need to restore balance to our state which was doing very well prior to the worldwide economic downturn. Cutting existing revenues just does not make fiscal sense and in many cases is just morally wrong.

I am in full support for Bill O'Brien only for the fact that he stands for freedoms, individual rights, and liberties granted to us by God. Why is it that the Democrat Party always has to include EVERYONE as a collective bargaining chip and not an INDIVIDUAL? Talk about cutting the funds for colleges, I am all for that--look at the poor children in the OWS protest and the chaos they represent. Let's hold people accountable for themselves and get government out of our pockets.
