They Love to Drum

Locals grooved to the beat at the Amherst Town Library yesterday afternoon.

Amherst’s library had a lot of rhythm yesterday as a professional drum circle facilitator taught local residents how to ride the beat on their drums.

Julie Corey of the New Hampshire-based The Village Drum taught both young and old how to find their own groove by teaching them drum basics.

Setting up a circle on the lower-level of the library, Corey showed them the basics of drumming and how they could use it to align their rhythms with others. She said that anybody can drum because our bodies are always following their own rhythms.

“We all have a heartbeat, therefore we all can drum,” said Corey.

The group used West African-style drums, shakers and an assortment of unique instruments to create an ensemble of rhythm.

The Village Drum offers professional drum circle facilitation, as well as events and wholesale/retail world drum sales. For more information, contact Julie Corey at 603-647-0622 or visit The Village Drum website.
